leicestershire & rutland blood bikes home about us our fleet other blood bike groups committee volunteer role: fundraiser volunteer role: controller volunteer role: rider / driver sponsors contact us how to donate areas covered womens’ hospital birmingham members area faq events group statistics leicestershire & rutland blood bikes about us welcome to leicestershire & rutland blood bikes. leicestershire & rutland blood bikes is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers . the group follows the successful ‘blood bike’ model operated across the uk by about 30 other blood bike groups, most of them affiliated to the nationwide association of blood bikes (nabb). our fleet on their first “all together” outing at the end of our easter egg run 2017 from coalville to leicester tigers’ ground many of our volunteers are keen motorcyclists but being part of the group is not limited only to motorcyclists. we have volunteers who help with fund raising and others who are our telephone controllers. we also use vans so if you are willing to drive rather then ride a motorcycle please get in tuch with us. what we do: our group of volunteers provide a free, “out of hours” courier service to public health bodies in leicestershire & rutland between approximately 7pm and 6am monday to friday, with 24 hour cover at weekends and during public holidays. we are not an emergency service but work with the hospitals to fulfill their transport needs in an efficient and timely manner. getting to the destination safely is very important. in addition we will collect donated breast milk and transport it to the womens’ hospital in birmingham for processing and subsequent distribution to neo-natal units.
